3 Popular Supplements That Are a Waste of Money
This might make me a few enemies, but I believe that 99% of supplements and "superfoods" on the market are an absolute waste of money.
It seems like every time you turn your head, someone is offering the latest and greatest "beauty enhancing" or "breakthrough" superfood or supplement.
But what if I told you something shocking yet so simple to understand: there's no "food" that arrives in a bottle, having been made in a factory and sold in powdered form, that will ever compare in terms of "super-nutrition" to fresh fruits and vegetables.
But still, almost every day I get an e-mail that says, "what do you think of __________" (fill in the blank with whatever supplement or superfood is now being promoted as the latest "amazing" product).
Although it would take forever to review every product on the market, let's review some popular supplements and superfoods that, in my opinion, are an absolute waste of money.
Green Powder
Almost every supplement company has a variation of the "green powder," which is basically a powder made with dried grass, dried grass juices or dried vegetables and possibly algae. This powder is supposed to make your body more alkaline and give you nutrition you can't find elsewhere.
First, I would say that grass powder is not a worthy food and anyone growing grass and turning it into a powder and making a lot of money selling it is really laughing their way to the bank at the expense of unknowing customers. Even if it's called "wheatgrass", it's still grass.
A powder of vegetables or algae can never compare in nutritional value to fresh vegetables, even if those vegetables are not organic.
The real superfoods are dark green vegetables such as spinach, romaine lettuce, black kale, parsley, celery, arugula, and so on.
With the use of "green smoothies" made with *fresh* green vegetables and fruit, anyone can obtain superior nutrition in a few minutes a day (ruling out the argument that people don't have "time" to eat well).
Green smoothies and fresh raw greens literally put these green powders to shame. For a free mini-course on the power of green smoothies, go to:
Protein Powder
Another all-time favorite of supplement companies is the protein powder, in all its forms. There's the ultra-refined soy protein powder, we've got whey protein, rice protein, and now a less refined hemp protein.
But the idea is the same: that somehow, no matter how much food you eat, there's still a chance you might not get enough protein, so therefore you should consume protein in a concentrated, powdered form.
This idea is especially popular among body-builders and gym-goers. It's interesting to note that starting from the Greek gymnasiums two and a half thousand years ago through the ages of gladiators and modern gymnastics, men and women of all ages have been able to build magnificent, muscular bodies eating nothing more than simple foods and without the use of protein powders.
This is a classic example of how you can market a product by first "creating a problem" that doesn't exist.
Nutrition textbooks teach that you can get all the protein you need as long as you consume enough calories from whole foods, even if all you eat is fruits and vegetables.
Noni Juice
Although this discussion could lead me to cover any possible supplement or superfood among the thousands of products available, I think you're starting to get my point.
I'll just finish with an example of a "superfood" called noni and sold as "noni juice."
The noni is a fruit that's been used for centuries in Polynesia for its alleged medicinal properties. But there is very limited scientific evidence to support these properties.
When I visited Tahiti last winter, I was on the tiny island of Huahine and had the chance to try real noni juice from a local Tahitian couple who made the juice from their own fruit tree.
Let me tell you that it was the most disgusting, horrible concoction that I ever had in my entire life!
Obviously, the noni is not a natural food for humans, as there is no way anyone would want to consume it unless they thought it had some medicinal value.
My Tahitian friends explained how they prepare the noni juice. They put all these unappetizing, weird-smelling noni fruits in a jar and then let the thing ferment for several days.
Then the fermented juice that oozes out of the fruits and reeks like the juice that's formed at the bottom of a trash container is what they drink.
Now American companies have had the great idea of adding a bunch of sugar to this awful tasting Tahitian folk remedy juice, making up a fantastic story around it, throwing in some questionable science and selling millions of dollars worth of the stuff to suckers.
Listen closely: it's completely absurd to think that one food can be a universal remedy for all our ills. We need nutrients from different sources and Nature isn't so capricious as to put everything in one place.
We're meant to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, drink pure water and have a healthy lifestyle with lots of exercise and healthy relationships and positive thoughts.
All the rest is marketing and hype.
Of course, you are free to believe what you want about noni juice and other kinds of superfoods available on the market.
But do yourself a favor and make the decision to try for yourself what the study and experience of natural hygiene and health through a pure raw-based diet can do for you.

Common symptoms of COPD caused by Tobacco Smoke
Experts believe that about 10 million Americans have been diagnosed with COPD. However, just as many people have some form of lung impairment but have not been diagnosed with COPD.
COPD may go unnoticed in its early stages. This is because it is often confused with asthma, a bad cough, or a natural part of aging. Also, many people think of COPD as a disease that only affects the elderly. In fact, more than 70% of patients who have COPD are under age 65. And some people start having symptoms in their early 40s.
The symptoms of COPD tend to develop gradually and can begin in a person's early 40s. They may be worse some days than others, or they may be bad all the time. The important thing is to identify the symptoms early and get treatment.
Common symptoms of COPD include:
1)Shortness of breath (dyspnea)--In the early stages of COPD, patients may experience breathlessness only during strenuous activity. This might include climbing stairs or exercising. At first, they may see this as a sign of aging or being out of shape. But gradually, patients begin to feel shortness of breath even during simple activities. This can happen when simply walking across the room, or even at rest.

2)Chronic cough--It is often the first symptom of COPD to develop. Many people discount it as "smoker's cough" or the effect of cold weather at first.
3)Increase and/or change in sputum--Patients often produce sputum (also called phlegm) after coughing
4)Wheezing--Wheezing is a whistling or squeaking noise that is heard when the patient breathes. It may be caused by the narrowing of the airways in the lungs.
5)Chest tightness--Patients describe this as a feeling of pressure on the chest, as if being wrapped tightly by a blanket.

ADD And ADHD In Adults.
ADD and ADHD are both disorders of the endocrine (hormone) system that cause a neurological dissorder of the brain. For some reason unknown, in some people, the body produces less of the hormone melatoin than in others.
Melatonin stimulates the attention center of the brain. When we do not have enough melatonin we are unable to maintain a normal level of attention.
For those who are effected with this disorder, the consequences are that the individuals in question are severely challenged in attaining their true potential.
The treatment of ADD and ADHD is divided into three stages. The first stage involves an interview with a psychiatrist, psychologist or qualified social worker who askes a series of pertinant questions on the subject. The secong stage involves taking a test wherby the person being tested is asked to perform a mondane repetitious test on a computer that requires no learning process. The first time that the person takes the test he is unmedicated. The second time he takes the test, which is after a break of one and a quarter hours, he is administered ritalin. On completion of the test, the results are quantified and analyzed by a qualified neurologist who specializes in ADD and ADHD and in the use of ritalin. The third stage involves the concluding interview with the neurologist. The examinee is informed of the results of the tests and the need of lack of need for treatment and prescribed with the correct dosage of the drug. The examinee will then be given a date for a future examination and contact details to contact an expert should he or she feel any ill effect from the drug.
In the past, nothing was known about ADD or ADHD. From an early age, children with ADD or ADHD were labeled dreamers, lazy, do not pay attention, incompetant and inable to perform tasks that others performed with relative ease.
It indeed was a hard life for those with ADD or ADHD as it was, also, forthe dislectic, disnumeric or disgraphic. Please note that any number of these different disorders may be manifested simultaneously. Children with these conditions were, in the past, accused of shaming their families, destroying parental dreams and with many other kinds negative associations.
Yet, somehow, time passes and these children turn into adults. For some, the affliction passes with the onset of adulthood, if not completely then to some degree at least. Others are not so lucky.
ADD interferes with the brains ability to assimilate data through the maintaining of a consistant level of attention. for those with ADD or ADHD the learning process is severely compromised. But is this the only problem?
When we say attention we naturally think of sitting in a classroom and paying attention what the teachers say and write on the blackboard. And yet, attention is a very broad term, and ADD covers its full range.
Attention can also infer focus and/or powers of orientation. On the other hand, in certain circumstances, it seems that ADD does not severely effect our powers of concentration. A good example of this is when we are driving. In actual fact, the field of driving should be split into two for the purposes of understanding the effect that ADD has on this subject. The first area of concern is attention to driving safely and the second area is attention to orientation.
It would seem that the unconcious mind, which is primarily our brains defence mechanism, can, in situations of potential danger, help maintain a higher level of attention and concentration. On the other hand, persons with ADD may loose their way several times in a single journey although they continue to drive qiute safely.
ADD and ADHD can effect the ability to make preparations through lack of consistant concentration, to organize or to make the choices that may be in our best interest. This is due to the lack of ability to focus and maintain attention on essential details that are essential to arranging priorities which are of paramount importance to every contributing element in the planning of every aspect of our lifes.
Persons with ADD or ADHD very often find themselves between the hammer and the anvil in a never ending viscious cycle of inability to organize their priorities.
Therefore, a person who posesses the potential to, say, attend university or college, may never know this because the ADD is obstructing his or her ability to make plans and sort themselves out.
Therefore, persons who suspect that they have ADD or ADHD absolutely should get diagnosed and treated for the disorder. After treatment it is vital to start using the medicine to allow the process that will initiate the realization of their potential to begin.
ADD can be treated at any stage in life and those afflicted with ADD should not be put off or allow themselves to be advised to the contrary.
Unfortunately, many adults with ADD are not only trapped by their condition but may be burdened still further by their partners. People often choose partners who they feel will not evolve and move on in life, thus 'leaving them behind'.
If the partner suffering from ADD or ADHD does decide to move and address the issue of their ADD or ADHD, their partner may feel threatened and become insecure. In many of these cases jelousy sets in and pressure is applied aimed at shattering such plans.
Also, family doctors (GP'S) in some countries, like the UK, may come under fire from medical authorities for refering too many patients to specialists for non essential reasons and because of this advise adults with ADD and ADHD to simply get on with their lives as best they can and forget about treating ADD because the success of the treatment of ADD may be unquantifiable.. There may also be other reasons.
It is most important for individuals with ADD of ADHD to never allow themselves to be put off resolving their problem and by doing so, ultimately achieving a sense of happines.
